When Volunteers of America was founded, a “volunteer” was someone whose vocation was to serve others through a commitment to a mission. Today, we are still staffed by mission-driven professionals working to support individuals and build thriving communities, only now we call them “employees.”

A frail Vietnam veteran and his wife were struggling in the intense Florida heat. Their aging air conditioning system had stopped working, leaving them exhausted and worried.![]()

Thanks to funding from The Home Depot Foundation’s Veteran Home Repair Program, #VOAF was able to coordinate and install a new AC system quickly.![]()
